Interlaced or progressive render for clip intended for reuse?

Even though my camera shoots interlaced video my DVD players all play progressive scan & since it seems that most things are moving toward progressive scan I suppose that it makes sense to render ones project this way. Please correct me if I am wrong?

When making a project I often render out a complicated portion as an AVI file which I then re import back into the project. Should this be rendered out at this time as progressive scan even though the rest of project on timetine is still interlaced or does it not matter one way or the other?

When entering the command to render to AVI one of the options is to use good or best. Once again will these be any noticable difference in the output?

If it was shot interlaced keep it that way. You can always de-interlace for a progressive output. Once you've converted it to progressive there's no going back. Also unless you've got deep pockets the very best de-interlacing technology isn't cheap but maybe one day you'll be able to afford it. If you don't have the original "i" footage, you're lost.
That's not to say you shouldn't play around though. There's a subtle difference between applying an FX to i footage and then de-interlacing as opposed to de-interlacing and then applying the FX to the p footage.
