interlacing on computer

Reading a couple of threads about this and had a question:

What would happen if you converted 29.97i to 59.97p and then had black in the even lines for odd fields and vice versa for the even fields?

You've just reinvented the "bob" deinterlace. VLC
has this as a playback option if your computer is fast enough. Mine isn't.

The original inventor of "bob" filters was Donald Graft, whose experience goes back to the early days of AVI. Google his name for a lot of rich history -- he's still active in other forums, and his groundwork is used in almost every decomb filter in use today.
