Sound card: Gadget labs 8/24.
Vegas Video 2.0b
O/S WNT 4.0 SP5
Memory 262 MB
CPUs 2x550 MHz

When recording > 2 channels Vegas is inconsistant about
whether it records the higher tracks or not.

I can here the sound on my mixer before it goes into the
sound card. I can see the sound going into the Vegas
monitor (on the left), when the track is armed, but before
I press the record button.

Then when I press record, the first two channels start
recording but SOMETIMES the other channels do not. Then
when I stop the recording, I can no long er see sound on
the Vegas monitor. If I disarm and rearm the track, I can
see the sound again. If I press record I will sometimes
get sound for that track and sometimes not! (within the
space of seconds).

In all cases, once recording starts, the sound does not
come or go. If it is there at the beginning, it will be
there at the end. Similarly, if it did not start when I
pressed the record button, it will not suddenly appear.

My first guess would be your soundcard's drivers.

However, one other easy thing to check, just to discount it
as a source of trouble, would be your video card
acceleration settings. Drop them down a notch or two,
reboot, and see if the problem goes away.

While I would suspect the soundcard/drivers first, I
mention the latter because I have had previous Vegas
installations on machines with oddball video cards exhibit
unusual recording and playback behavior until I got around
to changing them out.

FWIW ... and good luck.
