Internet explorer script error HELP!

cowmumble wrote on 5/10/2001, 1:10 AM
I keep getting A pop up window that won't go away everytime
I use the HELP (contents and index) in all sonic foundry
programs...VEGAS VIDEO, ACID 3, SOUND FORGE 5.0

It says INTERNET EXPLORER SCRIPT ERROR (An error has
occured in the script on this page) error = 'return' error
outside of funtion, or, object expected.

I don't get this error in any other help application except
sonic foundry programs.

I'm recently upgraded from windows 98 to 98SE so take
advantage of the upgrades and directX. Everything else
seems to work fine, just the Help section.

any help on what to do would be great.

I can't reproduce this on my machine, but I'll continue
checking it. When are you seeing this error? Does it seem
to occur on specific Help topics, or is it every time you
press F1 to open Contents and Index?

Thanks,
Kevin

I get the error anytime I go to Help> Contents & Index> and
Display any of the Keywords from the help Section. Often
times the pop-up window won't go away. Funny thing is, I
don't have problems with this in any other Software Help
menus expect Sonic Foundry. I've taken the advise of your
tech support and tried to run a repair from the add/remove
programs of Internet Explorer 5 and it says:

Internet Explorer could not be repaired due to the
following errors:

Version 5.0.531.7 of file WSHEXT.DLL (and file WSHOM.DLL)
exists, but the version needs to be greater than 5.1.4411

I recently upgraded from Windows 98 to 98SE for the latest
Vegas Video Upgrade but I'm hesitant to upgrade my Internet
Explorer to 5.5. I have heard 5.5 is not user friendly
with certain CD Writing software (EZ CD Creator/adaptec,
etc).
Is this true, even a cause for concern, or is IE 5.5 a good
version to upgrade to? Is this entire situation even an
Internet Explorer issue?

Yes, this is an IE issue, and the details you sent along
clarify this a bit. The .dll that's giving you an error is
a Scripting Host, and our popup windows are created using a
script. We use compiled HTML Help, so that's why problems
with your IE installation would affect Help.

You should not have to upgrade to IE 5.5 (we require only
IE 4.0 or later to view Help). I'm not aware of
incompatibilities with CD writing software, but if we can
clean up your installation, we should be in business.

You can't repair IE 5, but can you uninstall and reinstall
it? The following link to Microsoft's site lists a solution
for a problem that sounds remarkably like yours:

Let's try this again--the forum stripped a link I wanted
you to have:
