Invalid Page Faults and other sins ....

karlc wrote on 8/1/2000, 4:48 PM
Now that we've gotten most of our big editing projects out
of the way for the summer, we've tried switching over
completely to VV and removed Vegas Pro from the system ...
but not without loss of a good deal of the stability that
was inherent in the latter.

Despite upgrading recently to 2.0a, we still haven't gotten
an installation of Vegas Video to be anywhere near as solid
as previous versions of Vegas Pro were on this same Win98
DAW with MOTU 2408.

Hangups and freezes occur randomly when editing, often when
using a volume envelope.

One of the most frequent problems ... and one that can be
reproduced on demand without fail ... is Vegas causing an
Invalid Page Fault in kernel32 about the third time you
choose View|Minnimize All Tracks from the VV Menu Bar.

This can be reproduced even when there are no events in
VV ... but it strangely does not happen at all when using
the "~" keyboard shortcut to perform the same action.

I would almost suspect a video subsystem problem the way
some of these things happen, but this is the same G400 Dual
Head and drivers that performed so well with VP?

It's a damn shame, Vegas Pro was so solid all this past
year on this box ... now I am getting leary of turning on
VV in front of a client.

Anyone else experiencing these kind of problems with VV?

KAC ...

Do you have a Waves Dongle on that same system?

I had that same prob.It is not vegas.Uninstall Vegas vid;make sure
you have vegas pro completely off of drive. Then uninstall all
plugins.I am trying to remember what the actual cause was.You have
dx6?
Did you load any new drivers for your matrox?
I was having conflicts with my vid card.I also have the matrox
g400dual hd.
Ask Peter haller about this.Or check back in the posts;quite aways.
I will let you know once I fig out.Try reinstalling all over though.

David,

When "Vegas caused an invalid page fault in kernel32.ddl", it most
likely *is* Vegas that is causing the problem. :)

Besides, the only thing to change on this box is the installation of
VV. We have uninstalled everything to do with Sonic Foundry and
reinstalled a couple of times now, the last being the upgrade to
2.0a ... still no joy.

I am willing to try anything, What version of the Matrox G400 DH
drivers are you using?

Thanks.

Hi George,

Nope ... but we do have a Cubase Dongle on that machine. Even though
we don't run it much anymore, I do have some clients who require it
now and again.

Hmmmm ... Thanks for the idea. I wouldn't hesitate to give that damn
thing the boot if I was certain that was a known problem?

Is it?

We are pretty meticulous about what is loaded in memory when this box
boots, only the required Explorer and systray are loaded.

I am ready to try anything ... in a session tonight the perfect
opportunity arose to crank up and wow a client with the magic of
multitrack editing so they could overdub to a solid, composite take
bounced back to multitrack. I wouldn't have hesitated to do so with
VP ... and it would have only taken ten minutes ... but I wasn't
about to even mention it after my experiences this past month with
Vegas Video.

Vegas Pro pretty much did what we needed ... and I, more than most,
should know better than to fix what ain't broke ... but I damn well
did it anyway. :)

I'm sure this will get sussed out ... just have to find the right
combination. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Karl
I had a problems with all three of my MOTU systems. My systems would
just reboot or get that blue screens, but I made a change on one of
my systems and POOF!!!!!!! no crashes and blue screens,I email Aaron
I think he has a MOTU system, I know he's busy but im trying to get
info before I post what I think I've found.I too have Cubase VST/24
and Logic PA 4.0 but they're setting on the shelf now. You can try to
remove the Cubase dongle as a test to see if you stop getting the
errors, but I don't think it's Cubase. Please let me know and good
luck

Thanks George Ware

George,

Did you ever figure out what that change was that you made that
stopped the instability?

Thanks.
