IRQ Conservation in W2K

In an attempt to optimize my W2K system for video, I was wondering if disabling a device - such as an Ethernet card - in Device Manager is equivalent to physically removing the card from its slot on the motherboard.

If it is just as effective, it would be possible to use the Hardware Profile function to limit device usage to the minimum required to do video capturing, editing, etc. The idea is to reduce the number of IRQ interrupts the system has to deal with.

Thanks in advance for any experience with, or insight into, this area.

My gut feeling is you'll be past the point of diminishing returns once you start addressing the time spent servicing interrupts. That said, I'll be very interested to hear how you get on.

Its a bit easier to get the IRQ'S correctly implemented in the
first place. Win2K is tough enough to install cleanly and once completed
you don't want to mess with it. Check some of the threads in Vegas
about number 100 back or so and find "Win2K file allocation 512 or 4096?"
The key item in IRQ land is where the sound card is and where the firewire
and video card are.
