Is AVI stop motion capture with VV 3 possible?

I am currently using Premiere to do stop motion capture from a modified projector that has had the shutter removed and a microswitch fitted to create a mouse click when each frame is stopped in the gate (a Workprinter 3). Premiere supports this and allows each frame to be captured and then all the captured frames are written out to a DV format AVI file.

Can VV 3 do this? It seems that VV 3's stop motion capture creates bmps or Jpegs, and can only capture 20 frames or so.

Premiere will only output a 29.97 FPS DV string, a nice feature would be to support creating a variable (16 to 30 FPS) AVI to match the speed of the original film source.

Have I missed something here, or is there any possibility of VV supporting this in the future?

you could set the capture length to be 1 frame: advance the projector, then capture, repeat ad nauseum. Totally manual, but worth considering.

Manual won't cut it here. A typical transfer might be between 3,000 and 12,000 frames. The projector runs continuously at about 1 - 2 FPS.

Hoping for actual support for this environment a la Premiere.

I really like Ulead's video capture in this area. You can set it up for a specific interval or each time the space bar is pressed, it captures the current frame and adds it to the .avi file being captured. I'm sure it would be easy enough to have this triggered by an external event too. The only annoying thing with Ulead's capture (at least in the ancient version i've been using) is that you can't set the frame rate.

Same thing with Premiere, you are stuck with 29.97 FPS. Premiere uses a mouse click, rather than a space bar and also adds the frame to an AVI. I wonder if we can get comparable function put into VV?
