Is it possible to demote markers?

I know there's a script to promote media markers to the timeline. Is there a way to demote timeline markers back to the media?

I'm reviewing some footage and dropping markers at points I want to return to, but I'm realizing I really ought to be dropping markers in the trimmer to make sure the marks stay in the right spots on the media. That and the media would play better in the trimmer.

You can render the clip to a new copy with 'include metadata' checked. This will store the markers in the file (for most file types). However, this will introduce a recompression in most cases.

Rendering MPEG with markers creates a .sfl file. I suppose one could try rendering to a new MPEG file, then deleting the new .mpg file and renaming the .sfl file to match the original file name. I don't know for sure though; i seem to recall reading that the .sfl file contains links to the matching file created at the same time and Vegas won't pair it with a different .mpg file.

Meh. Not so appealing to do a render but this is all just reference video. Quality isn't my first concern but time is an issue.

It's not too hard to move a few makers manually. Set playhead at timeline marker, right-click on event and open in trimmer, then make a new marker. It'd just be nice to automate it and move/copy all the markers.
