Is It Worth It?

I have been contemplating upgrading from Vegas MS Plat Pro 9 to Vegas Pro, but I'm not sure if it's worth it to me. I like the ability to use selective color and masks in Pro; I also like the ability to add more video and sound channels than Movie Studio offers and the new, cool title editor. Here's the thing, Movie Studio has more plugin special effects and transitions and I'd like to keep those too. Does Vegas Pro allow you to set up additonal plugin directories. It seems like the feature would be available; they are grayed out in the Vegas Movie Studio plugins dialogue. I also just bought Cinescore and the Cinescore plugin installed to MS. Would Vegas Pro be able to access that as well? I'd like to use Cinescore in the program and not have to go out of it to work with music, sound effects and mixing.

I have Photoshop CS3 extended and can do masking and color selection there; so do you think it would be worth it for me to to upgrade while the price is low? Are there any other advantages other than those I specified in the above paragraph?

Vegas can certainly access Cinescore.
Vegas Pro does let you access 3rd part plugins, I can't say if you get more Sony plugins or not though.

In the end I think your question is best answered by considering how much you feel hemmed in by what you have. I'd say a lot of what I do I could do in VMS but that's hard to judge as I'm not 100% certain what I'd loose if I only had it.

Hi Tomsde

I upgraded from Vegas MS Plat Pro about a year ago and haven't looked back . VegasPro8c rocks for me on Vista. Yes Cinescore works just the same as the platinum version if not a bit faster...my opinion.

The Upgrade was like more breathing room. to create with no limitations on tracks etc

With the new discounts I'd say .... Go fo it!

Cheers

In a nut shell. YES! It is defintately worth upgrading!

I was working with MS for about a year and recently upgraded and am thrilled that I did! Having so many video and audio tracks really helps. That titler is fantastic.
So in my opinion it is well worth the money and hassle.

The only thing I really dislike, like you said is that the effects in Vegas Pro are much less that the effects in MS Platinium. I was reallly disapointed. I thought with that price tag there would be more effects not less! You can buy them from New Blue (and more) but there are not cheap.
You might be able to run both in the same computer and go back and forth. like put the effects on in MS, render, then import to VP. I say 'might' because you could only do this on an XP or Vista 32 bit system. MS does not run on 64bit (so I assume that your on 32 or XP just thought I'd let you know in case).

But still I think you should go to Vegas....in the long run you'll be happy. Vegas Pro is more powerful and has a lot of advantages.... Like this Forum, for instance the people here know like everything there is to know about video making and are very helpful in sharing that knowledge. Plus you you will get the updates and upgrades from Sony. You like join a club when you get VP.

People always told me that I could do anything in MS and would never, never, need VP but there were wrong! I quickly found many things where I was limited in. Now with VP I am not. You really can do anything in VP if you have enough time.

Sorry for blabbing I just wish someone would have talked me into buying VP sooner.

peace,

ice

Once I moved from Movie Studio to Pro I wondered why I took so long to make the decision. It's amazingly more flexible and your projects will become quite a bit more controllable with more tools, more tracks (unlimited) and many more options. Do it!

I think you can use the NewBlue effects that come with Movie Studio in Vegas Pro. (But Movie Studio must be installed on your PC.)
