Is the 16:9 mode on the Canon XM-2(GL2) true anamorphic?

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if the XM-2 shoots in true 16:9 anamorphic or is it simulated like on some earlier cameras? If so, what is the advantage of having an anamorphic lens...is this for previewing purposes? Will the footage fill the screen properly on a widescreen TV? Any help to these probing questions would be much appreciated!!!!

Check this link. It will tell you everything you wanted to know about anamorphic
verses regular. http://www.adamwilt.com

The XM2 doesn't have native 16:9 chips so it simulates it by pixel squeezing, unfortunately. I also have an XM2 and have shot some 16:9 footage and it's hard to tell that it hasn't been shot with true 16:9!

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback Tim, I was afraid of that being the case! Do you know which prosumer cameras do have true 16:9? In any case I will go ahead with shooting in this format and hope for the best...oh and rush out to buy a widescreen telly!
