As long as you're using a 32bit version of Vegas, and Sony hasn't fixed their various memory leaks, these Sony AVC crashes will always happen, yes.

The 2 GB fix improves a Windows issue which can let several programs crash.

Even Microsofts own Flight Simulator can crash if the fix is not applied to it.

And yes - the fix will also prevent Windows from letting VMS crash when you work with media (i.e. AVCHD) which requires much memory.

To make things clear: while 32bit is a curse for today's heavy apps, it's these apps' fault for crashing. Usually, they crash because they have memory leaks, not because they truly need more than 2 GB of RAM. And for those that truly need as much RAM, then they could have implemented an internal virtual-memory system, like Photoshop has. See, back in the day when Photoshop needed MBs and sometimes GBs of data handled, but PCs only had about 32 or 64 MB of RAM, Adobe sat down, and wrote their own virtual memory, bypassing that of Windows' and MacOS'.

Doing so requires time, and great expertise. And that means "money". So cheaper apps, or very competitive apps that are always in "release mode", don't have the luxury Photoshop has being the easy No1, so they let things like these slide.

Okay, one other question about this......regarding changing of the Boot.ini file......the original thread on this stated to add /3GB to the end of the last line in the file.
Well, I did this - and checked the boot.ini again recently, and it was not there anymore. I thought I saved it, too. hmmm.....

Also, there is another thread on this forum posted by someone who swears by this boot.ini fix - but this person added a "space" before they added the /3GB. (i.e. _/3GB)
Which is correct.....or, are they both correct?
I just want to make sure I did this right.

I applied this "fix" to VNS 9 and it really smoothed and speeded up things.
Bottom line - Doing the same chnges to VNS 10 should produce like results ??

Thanks, Knockatoone

So which files require this patch for VMS 10 platinum? I don't see the same names as were for VMS9

Never mind I found a link with the file names.

Just tried to do this in ver 10 and some files do not match..or not found.
Eigentor - How about sharing the site where you found the ver 10 info,
Thanks, K

This is what I replaced in DVDAS5.0:

dvdarchst50.exe
dvdarchst50k.dll
mcstdh264dec.dll
sonymvd2pro_xp.dll
wmfplug4.dll

For VMS 10:
VegasMovieStudioPE100.exe
vegasmoviestudiope100k.dll
mcstdh264dec.dll
sonymvd2pro_xp.dll
wmfplug4.dll

Take snapshot of their original locations before moving them and replacing them with the modified files.

"

I modded all thes files, note that 3 of them exist in both apps. Whether this is everything, I don't know. I'd be curious to find how this list was determined, because it certainly doesn't cover all the files.
Also note that VegasMovieStudioPE100.exe is the application file, not the XML file.
It may be worth reading that whole thread to get better insight.
