I do a lot of scanned photo montages, and I'm curious if the new SF DV codec adjusts itself for IRE levels below 16 and above 235. I'd hate for the NTSC police to come knocking.
The DV color space allows values that are outside of NTSC legal, so it is possible to be out of range without one more correction step. You can use the broadcast colors filter, set to clamp, as a "Video Output FX" (drop it onto the video preview window). This is the way to go when making air dubs for TV broadcast. Adds to the render time, but the TV police will leave you alone.
If you have a long program and don't want to wait for the entire thing to be re-rendered, you can check "invert out of range colors" and you'll see what colors are illegal as you play the program. These can be selectively corrected.
If you are going to tape for duplication only, you probably don't need to use this filter.
