Is there a DV codec available so I can export out of another program for straight import to Vegas?

I've been looking on the net for a codec so I can export out of another program to DV where I'll be able to play straight from Vegas's timeline without a render.
I would have thought the Microsoft DV codec would be the one to use but it doesn't come up as an option in AVI compressor choices. I persume it's on the system if I'm able to capture through firewire?

And I've downloaded the Panasonic DV codec but can't seem to find a way to install it in Win2K.

See www.mainconcept.com.

They sell a very good, low-cost DV codec.

Vegas uses the MainConcept MPG2 codec.

There is even a downloadable trial of the DV codec.

After unzipping pdvcodec.zip, right click on PANADV.INF and select Install. That should do it.

There's also the matrox codecs. It includes the MAtrox DV, DVCPro, DVCPro50 &Matrox MJPEG codec. It's in their support section.

Most DV wrappers/codecs will show up - however for most 3rd party codecs you need to render as "Avi" and select the compression type and select your DV codec. Many programs just use MSDV and it will show up as "DV" or the like, it normally won't say 'Microsoft DV' or anything like that.

What program are you trying to export from?

I'm trying to export from In-Sync Speed Razor and Eyeon Digital Fusion. Both of them do not have a DV codec option in their AVI codec choices but they are on the same machine as Vegas which is digitising in DV from firewire. That's why I thought there might be a DV codec option?

The Vegas DV codec is private so it will never show up in any codec list. That’s why you should just install the Panasonic DV codec that you have. I use it all the time.

Note: if you are exporting with an Alpha channel, you don’t need a codec. You should just use 32bit uncompressed AVI in that case to preserve the alpha channel. DV codecs are only 24 bit and don't support alpha.
