Is there a script that makes it so a picture that 1500 x 2300 will fit completely be in the frame yet the output aspect ratio will match the DV project?

My problem is that I can use Ultimate S3, so that the entire pic in the frame, but when it zooms in there are black pillar boxes on the side of the pic.

I don't want these black bars there. Is there anyting I can do besides cropping all these pictures by hand?

In US3 under the photo montage tool, there is a crop event to aspect ratio. so all you need to do is select all the files, on the time line and set the "crop event to aspect ratio" check the "match" box and then set it to project, and you're set. (I think that's what you're wanting to do). If you're wanting to change the pixel aspect ratio to make it so that the pictures aren't correct, then this is not what you're looking for, but this might help.

Thanks Dave for your reply. Right now I am fooling around with Excalibur plugin and I almost got it with the rotating picture control.
I set the rotating control to 0 and use the size control.

On another note, I can't understand why Ultaimate S3 does not have the ability to rotate the pictures when it has everything else for the Ken Burns Effect.

Update: The PIP control works well in Excalibur for the control I needed to set the pictures before I apply the Ken Burns Effect..

I updated my response, is that what you wanted to do?

That is sort of what I want to do, but if I use that tool to do it and I zoom in on the picture, I see black bars on the side of the pic when it zooms in.

What I want to do is: when it zooms in, it just zooms in without the black pillar boxes on the side.

I don't think there is any easy way to achieve this except by using the pip tool in Excalibur and resizing all the pictures. Then, I have to go through them all to make sure they are framed right because some of the pictures are not the same size.

Do you understand what I mean?

Actually only zooming out would give you black bars if the match aspect was not set. With match aspect to project, I can't get any black bars to appear, even on vertical pictures. Can you send me an email (via this forum) with a screen shot of what you are seeing?

It was on the list for US3 but didn't make release date. I'll see what I can do to add it to an interim release of 3.x. I agree it completes the functionality.

I'm sorry I must not have explained it correctly.

If the picture is set to match the aspect of the project, it does not have the black bars (exactly as you describe), but since the resolution of the pictures are roughly 1500 x 2300, they are zoomed in only showing a section of the picture. To cure this I selected match to source aspect ratio. After applying the Ken Burns Effect the black bars came into play because of the zooming in.

What I did for now was use the project aspect ratio for all the pics in the project and then used a script to reduce the size of the pics so that many of them were completely framed. The ones that were not in frame I went back and framed manually.

What I was trying to figure out was how to import high resolution pictures of different aspect ratios fully framed and not have the black bars come into play after the Ken Burns Effect is applied.

The benefit of having the pictures match the aspect of the picture itself is that the whole picture is framed, but then there are the black bars when the effect is applied

Is there a way to have high resolution pictures of different aspect ratios import into vegas so that the picture is completely framed and there are no black bars when the effect is applied?

Does that make sense?

It is very exciting that S3 may soon have rotation added to the toolset.
Rotation really adds to the emotion of the pictures.

Anyword on if or when S3 will have rotation added to the toolset?

I am not sure to really understand what you are looking for.
Have you trying my script “Video Zoom” (see here).

Hi, I've got a handle on what my original question was by using a combination of S3 and Excalibur.

However, S3 has more control than Excalibur when it comes to photo montages, but there is one area where S3 is severely lacking.

It does not have the ability to rotate images.

It was stated by JohnnyRoy that this function may be added soon and I was wondering when.

Will it soon be added?

Anyone from the Vasst Team care to answer if and when there will be an update to S3?

Right now I can't give you a date (sorry). :(

The nice thing about Ultimate S or any script is that, once the processing is done, the result is a Vegas .veg file. You can then go in by hand and rotate the pictures that you want rotated.

Yeah, that is nice to a degree, but rotation is standard for photo montage.
