Is there a .veg file Editor or Viewer? Format=?

I've looked at the .veg file my Vegas 5 creates... and I can read parts of it using the PC's Notepad program.

(I'm having a problem posted earlier where I renamed a folder in the path and now project no workie !)

1 - Is there a way to edit veg files using an ascii or text editor like notepad?
2 - Is there a way to edit the veg file?
3 - Is the veg file format available as a reference for trouble shooting?

thanks for any help.

The answer to all three questions is: NO

It's odd that you are not getting the dialog that asks to resolve the file names. This could be a bug in Vegas 5 but if it is, no one is going to fix it.

What you might try is downloading the Vegas Pro 8.0 trial and see if you have the same problem or if the search for media dialog comes up. If it does come up, that's a strong case for upgrading. If it doesn't you might want to report the problem to Sony and see if they can fix it, but it will get fixed in Vegas 8 not 5 (obviously).

You might have better luck trying to find a way to rename the folder back to the original name just for this project.

I think that the answer lies in the length of the paths. Copy all the files to a folder at the root of the drive and see how that works. You could include the subfolders.

Windows has a path length limit. It's long, but not endless. It's possible that Vegas also has a limit that's slightly different from that of Windows. Also, I'll bet the limit is different for NTFS and FAT32 disks.

Don't try to manually edit the veg file! Are you a glutton for punishment? It'll work out about the same as a self-appendectomy!

I don't know why you'd want to edit the VEG file directly. If you're just trying to see the paths to the files used in it, use the Edit Details tab.

I have edited the veg file and for exactly the same reason as the OP stated.
1) any changes in a file path has to be EXACTLY the same size as the original.
2) You must use a binary editor. Notepad is not.

I found it easier to recreate the directory path that Vegas was looking for.
