Vegas 3 has a way of doing this, but as you are using version 2, try the following (on a project to have a back up of to be safe!).

Assuming all of your media is already in the same folder, but not all of it is used - eg you've recorded three guitar solos, but only used the 2nd one; you end up with two excess files.

1) Open the project in Vegas.
2) Display the Explorer in Vegas
3) navigate to the open projects folder in the Vegas Explorer.
4) Select all the media (eg .WAV) files in the folder using Ctrl/Shift + Left Click
5) Hit Del on you PC's keyboard.
6) When Vegas gets to a file it is using, it will ask if you really want to delete it (say NO!).
7) Repeat as necessary.

I think there is an option in the preferences that tells Vegas to ask for confirmation to delete files that are in use. You need this switched on for the above to work.

There's actually an easier way to accomplish this. Goto to the Media Pool window, and use the broom function (ie get rid of unused media). This will empty the media pool of any files that you haven't used in any tracks. Now when you do a save, save to a new folder and check the boxs copy all media used in project. Now you've effectively saved all the used, media to a new folder without your unused takes. Go back and delete ALL the waves in your original record folder.
