Is there any way to auto size picures and to have it so they all auto fade in and out ina little montage video? I want to make all the pictures the same length in video time and have them all fade in and out on screen. If I have to do it all by hand it will take long time (over 200 pictures).

ANy tips out there?

EDIT: After reading, I think a better term would be a project wide crossfade, or at least a group of clips that I can highlight, I would like to have crossfades across all of them.

MS3 can certainly do what you're asking, but there's no way to make it automatic. In fact, if all you're doing is a slide show, you may want to consider using a lower end program. Search "slide show" on this forum and you likely even find some freeware/shareware programs.

To do it in MS3, you can drag all the still to the timeline in one group, but the crossfades won't happen automatically. You'll have to slide each still back to overlap the last portion of the slide before it and then apply the appropriate transition.

This works great, if you're only doing a few stills. But, if you're doing 200, it can be a bit inconvenient.

MS3's power is in doing higher end video editing.

I agree with regard to using a program optimized for slide shows. I am also putting together slide show montages and I have scouted out a few good programs. The new ProShow Gold from Photodex comes to mind and I can also recommed taking a look at Imagematics Still Motion PE. These are not freeware, but run in the $40-70 class but are well worth it if you are doing alot of slide shows. Both wiill let you import an entire directory of images and set a default trransition.

I plan on using something like these to do basic layouts. Where Screenblaster comes in is for fine tuning the outpuit and generating different output formats. Since I use some Flash effects, I output these to AVI and worki with them in the Screenblaster tiimelline alongsside other standalone images or effects available in the video editor.

Crossfade a Group
I'm assuming you have the pictures side by side
1. Turn Ripple Edits off and Automatic Crossfade on
2. Switch to Selection tool (Edit-->Editing Tool-->Selection
3. Select all the pictures and create a New Group (right click -> Group> Create New)
4. Copy the Group (right click --> Copy)
5. Position the cursor where you want the transition between photo 1 and 2
6. Paste the Group. Finished.

This has the disadvantage of adding transitions you don't want (overlap of different pictures and also the same). It's fairly easy to figure out what ones you care about. For 4 pictures you get 7 transitions. (Confession: I had to write 1 2 3 4 on a piece of paper and below it write 1 2 3 4 shifted over in order to see where the transitions were coming from)

If you want fancy transitions (Iris: 36 diamonds set 4x9 with a yellow border slightly feathered) I think you'll need to go through and add them manually to every other transition.
