Something similar to what you see if you d/l videos from sites or banners like that on the bottom of cable newscast. I have only seen where I can put something over the entire display (screen). I'm not in a position to upgrade now but can Vegas do this if VMS can't?
I'm sure you've seen the thing they use at the bottom of newscast. They put different texts things in it. I tried playing with the "text & backdrops" and using the "text" setting, with the default text. The nearest thing I've done was dragging the "top edge handle" and other handles shrinking the size of the overlay in relation to the screen/display size. Then I have to readjust the font size. Also, there is no way of feathering the overlay that I can see. Am I wrong? That would look a world better! Am I doing this wrong? I don't really see much detail in the pdf provided with the program.
I know but that is for the whole thing. So there is no way to make something like the example. Does the upgrade to Vegas offer this stuff? Is it possible to use some sort of image with a transparency?
You can do this in vms.
picture or video on third track (3rd from top says video)
chose rectangular color gradient from text and backdrops in the left hand lower corner where media pool ,transitions and effects are, then put on 2nd track (2nd from top says video overlay), reverse the transparencies ( little boxes by the color choices with checkers in them and sliders ) and move to where you like
text position on first track (says text ) place over and add shadow
I can do the exact same thing as in your first picture
except for the marbling on the text ( i could render and then through a couple more steps do that )
I don't really understand what you sd. Use a text and backdrop, color gradient, on 2 different reverse the trans and move them........huh? You don't contact info, but mine is listed. I also have a yahoo msgr ID. Please let me know how I can get more info on this.
Hey Paul
In text and back drops choose the linear,blue-green title bar . Okay in the window you will find another window with # 1,2,3 left click over the 1 make sure it is blinking then go to the small window that has the word color over it.grab that arrow and pull it down all the way . you should see the blue go to transparent . Now you should have just a green bar at the bottom . If you grab the 1 again in the window and pull it up a bit you should notice it feathering . Plus you will uncover the 2 . If you select the 2 you can change the color . or move it till you hearts desire . Select the 3 and do to it what you want , From your photo it looks like you will want to go to the color window and make it transparent . After your done moving you can simply set the aspect ratio angle to 90 degrees . You can add more control points by clicking the plus at the bottom of the control points window. Or take away.
Play around with it you'll get the hang of it . Vegas has pretty much the same color gradients as VMS . So I would not upgrade just for that reason . And you don't have to choose the linear blue green title bar it just looked to be the closest to what you wanted . I believe there are only three basic structures in the gradients . A circle ,square , and a line .
I tried doind another one. "fancy wooden board" since most of it was already transparent. I have a real hard time playing with this stuff though. I don't know if any of you saw the images in full scale. I don't know what the avg resolution setting is but in something like this I can't imagine using a lower setting. Everything would all bunched up together. My father has some program on his pc for monitoring stocks. His eyes are pretty poor now or I'd change his setting. I think when you have a higher resolution setting (1920x1440) it's hard to move things such a small amount so playing with these things is pretty hard. I kept (not intentionally) turning it on it axis and Ctrl + Z doesn't work within the window. Anyway, I'd say when you want to do something like this it would be real helpful if the dialog box opened maximized. I REALLY wish there was notification setup on this forum. I don't know any other forum that does not offer this. It would also be useful if they would list IM. My yahoo ID is
"notavailableat"
if anyone that can attempt to assist in this, it would be great.
I think the basic answer was missed in that if you want an overlay that only covers part of the video, such as a strip at the bottom, you put the overlay as an opaque color on the video ovelay track, then use pan-crop to reduce the vertical height and then move it to the dersired position. On the time line, you can grab the bar at the top of the overlay and draw it down to allow some transparancy to the video behind it. To add text, put it on the text track, and position it using the "placement" tab in the text FX box.
