is V6 worth it?

thanks to you 2 for helping out with my problem....I found what I did wrong...I simply had to pull down the editing features that were all pushed up in the pop-up menu because after all, Vegas is more of an exercise in peel -away menus than that of an editing platform....However I do have a general question regarding V6.....I am currently using V4, I passed on V5, and I am considering purchasing V6 and aside from the HD features that you can realize in it, is it practically and usefully a huge jump in terms of advancement of features than V4?....or is it kinda like buying madden football games insofar as each year there is just a little more bells and whistles than the previous year but all in all the new edition is more cosmetic?

Do a search. In the past 30 days, there have been two threads on this identical topic. HDV, nested VEG files, and Media Manager are the big headlines in V6.

You just gotta try using the Trimmer inconjunction with Media Manager now - Grazie on 150 Octane!

* You can see the clips in MM while Audition it in Preview

* You can Drop from MM to Trimmer

* You can Scrub in Trimmer what you want

* Get some more from MM

* Trimmer

* Get more from MM

* You can start amassing stuff straight into Time Line

* You can Save this t/l open antoher instance of Veags 6 and start nesting the previous Vegas Prject or mix this up with other vegas projects - YOU DON'T even have open! Can't do THAT with 4 or 5!

Vegas is as Fast as my IDEAS come . .AND SOME! . . It has this compulsive way of stretching me . .. it demands I think even more outta the box . . . Vegas 6? Tell U what though Vegas 7 has to have some real fine features! . .But there again I'm totally hooked on Vegas anyway.

Bells and whistles? Yooooh! B&Ws don't EVEN come close!

Grazie

Huge? You bet. Like a chasm! I personally, couldn’t even imagine going back to Vegas 4 but that’s just me. I take advantage of the 3D compositing introduced in Vegas 5 and nested veg files and full screen Secondary Display preview in Vegas 6 almost every day. If you do a lot of compositing, nested vegs are Da Bomb!

Ultimately, you have to decide for yourself. We have no idea what you do with Vegas so we cannot possible answer this question for you. IMO, The jump from 5 to 6 was not as big in new features as the jump from 4 to 5 but put them both together (4 to 6) and you have a pretty big jump in functionality. Download the trial and see for yourself.

Audio / video synch tool is a thing of absolute beauty. Sony programmers deserve awards for this little feature, which does so much more than just fix inadvertent "nudges."

Try this: Put a long video/audio event on the timeline. Now hit "ignore grouping," and trim just the video track, leaving the audio track alone. Copy and paste just your trimmed video clip anywhere else on the timeline, over the audio track. You should see a red box appear in your copied video event. Right-click the video event, select "Synchronize" and "By Sliding." You now have two separate video events perfectly synched to one audio track. Very sweet, indeed.

If you can get Media Manager to work it is worth it. I had major problems with MM in the beginning, then it start working great, now I am having major crashing problems again. I would try it out on a serious project and see if it works for you. Others are also reporting issues.
