their official stance has been no commercial release of WinXP64, no comment.

That excuse should go out the window soon. :)

Actually XP64 has been released for distribution. Hopefully Sony is working on a 64bit version.

I think there may still be a dearth of device drivers for XP64 so I wouldn't go rushing in just yet.

Do a search in this forum. This has bee talked about before and there are some win64 beta testers posting here.

I'm giving it a go... Vegas 2, 3, and 4 seem to work fine under WinXP Pro 64 running on dual Opteron 248's.

Vegas 5 wants .NET 1.1, so I'm installing the .NET 2.0 64 bit beta 1 but it's taking like an HOUR to install.

Once I get Vegas 5 (hopefully) working I'll try 6.

EDIT: Well that's what I get for assuming...

I got through the .NET 2.0 64 bit install only to discover that I had to install the regular .NET 1.1 package anyway! Okay moving onto Vegas 6...

Everything was okay until it tried to install the SQL component for Media Manager. The install failed.

But the good news is Vegas 6 itself seems to run fine.
