ISO Based Media File Format

Ok,

So I'm really liking the specs on the new JVC GY-HM100U. I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the recording formats offered. Here's a direct quote:

Professional format recording with selectable data rates up to 35Mbps (Mpeg2 Long GOP)
-Native Final Cut Pro format
Fastest HD shoot to edit workflow. Edit immediately without conversion or transcoding
-ISO Base Media File Format

So being noob, could somebody explain to me what ISO Base Media File Format is? Whats the extension? Does it just show up as .mpeg2 then? I love using solid state media, especially SDHC cards but if a better alternative to AVCHD presents itself then it raises my interest.

Don't know much about ISO. If you have the right software, you can burn an ISO file directly to CD/DVD. This is probably a way to take your raw video files and quickly go to DVD (unedited).

Learn about ISO

In this case, ISO will mean a standardized transport stream container format and not a DVD type image. What the specific ISO Base Media File Format is, I don't know, but is likely to be a MP4 or MPG type file.

Thanks Xander.

This is what I was thinking too, but I wanted to be sure before purchasing a $3,500 camera. haha
I'm thinking MPG2, or MP4 file. But here is where I get confused.....can MPEG2 Long GOP fit in the MP4 container? I thought they were completely different.

Regardless, this "ISO Base Media File Format" is completely compliant with SVP 8.0c, correct?
