Juggling chainsaws is probably easier than what you want to do. ;)

Chainsaws that are running, and with flaming kerosene covering the blades?
Rednroll wrote on 6/18/2002, 11:36 PM
Oh much Worse!! Chainsaws that are running with kerosene flames, and nitro glycerin filled gas tanks, shooting razorblades from the exaust.

Lions and Tigers and bears.....oh my!!!

What it seems we are all saying is, fa ged abow dit...

The only way this may be possible is to bring the singer into your home studio, overdub the tracks as closely as possible, and add reverb to that.

But, let this not be a wasted lesson. Get the bid picture and make plans accordingly.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure grasshopper.

How much is a pound of grasshoppers? And why do they need to be cured...
MyST wrote on 6/19/2002, 1:42 PM
They're not too expensive per pound. The trick is keeping them from jumping off the scale. As far as why you need to cure them... Have you ever eaten uncured grasshoppers, they taste like $%?!"&!!! But, once cured, they taste like CHICKEN!

Rednroll wrote on 6/19/2002, 5:35 PM
I always wondered about that. Does everything else taste like chicken? or does chicken just taste like everything else? I've never heard anyone bite into a piece of chicken and say...hmmmm, "taste like alligator".

Oops, it seems we have lost our original poster, sedgwickd.
It's a shame... Next I was going to talk about properly filleting grasshoppers for the barbeque using a flaming chainsaw. The trick is starting to cut between the 2nd and 3rd rib. Cut between the 3rd and 4th, and it's ruined!

I'll have to trade my fillet glove for a pair of tweezers...
Rednroll wrote on 6/19/2002, 10:06 PM
I got to say, this has been the nicest, longest, and sarcastic thread to the old question of "how do I remove the vocals from a mixed song?" I hope the original poster didn't get the wrong impression of us all? :-)
sedgwickd wrote on 6/20/2002, 2:01 AM
Well, I have removed my first posting. Make what you will...
MyST wrote on 6/20/2002, 6:35 AM
Hey sedgwickd, nice to see you're still here! I hope you saw this thread for the good-time that it was.
To answer your question properly, check out #6 in the FAQs.
Actually, now that your original question is removed from this thread, it's even funnier considering it talks about flaming chainsaws and cured grasshoppers (this is an audio forum after all).

Hey sedgwickd,

I hope you haven't let these guys get to you. They're all very helpful when the word "remove" doesn't appear in the post. It's kind of a long-running joke around here. To answer your question, vocals cannot be removed from a song once it has been mixed down to two tracks. If you had the original multi-track tapes this could be done, but you can forget about it otherwise. Hopefully you'll continue to hang around here :-)

I hope sedgwickd has enough of a sense of humour to realise this was just good clean fun.
However, I would suggest if anybody feels that they aren't getting satisfactory answers to their questions to drop an e-mail to tech support. The SF reps really know their product and are always willing to help.
I've talked to TedH on the phone before via the phone support option, he'se a good guy!! We started chatting about this, that and the other things and what he used to do before working for SF. Do you believe he used to work in a circus?!? Yep, he used to juggle flaming chainsaws on a unicylce on a tightrope while whistling Dixie!
I've been to the SF annual picnic also. Very good food to be had. Don't eat the cured grasshoppers though...they taste like alligator!

Thanks for that - I did what you said and read the FAQ - should have done that to begin with!! DUH!

Now if I could only get a response to my CD-R / ATAPI question I posted earlier... Not one response (sarcastic or otherwise).

Anyhow, yeah I get the general picture - you CAN'T remove vocals, but it was all we could record.. ;-( However I'm really pleased with the results as they stand - just adding a bit of EQ and reverb did wonders to an otherwise "flat" recording - besides, no-one in the company knew what to do.

I'm glad you could embelish your project! If you want more info for futur "tweaking" of projects, check out Sound Forge forum. These guys can help alot at working two-track projects. Vegas is more for multi-track work.
Also, for your atapi drive... did you try the "search" engine at the top of these forums? I would suggest typing the word "atapi" for the search request. CD-R might get you too many responses that aren't related to what you're looking for( although, if atapi doesn't generate answers for ya...). Where it asks under what forum you want your search, I would suggest selecting all.
If you still can't get answers, I would suggest calmly and slowly stepping away from your computer, find a nice hammock in the shade and chomp on some cured grasshoppers and a cold beer!!
