Issue with external Blu-ray disc writer

I just installed a new LG BE12LU30 external Blu-ray disc writer. I was able to burn an HD project to Blu-ray flawlessly. However, despite the fact that the drive is rated at 12X, and I burned to Verbatim BD-R discs rated at 6X, DVDAS limited me to a 2x burn speed (and no faster speed appeared in the speed choice drop down). I then attempted to burn the same project to the same type of disc via Windows 7 Home Premium (which sent the project to Power2Go disc writing software), and I was able to burn the project at 6X, which allowed me to burn a project of over one hour length in 10 minutes.

This is a minor inconvenience, but is there any way around this limitation from within DVDAS?

This has come up before. I have DVDA Pro 5.2 on Win 7 64 bit and the same thing happens. I insert a blank BD with 4X speed but DVDA only offers me 2X (five options, all the same). It is good to know that other software does work, so the problem must be with DVDA.

I don't regard this as a serious issue because I make a habit of only burning at half max speed anyway, hoping that it will give me a better burn.

By the way, my burner is a Pioneer internal, so it is unlikely to be anything to do with your burner.

Thanks Peter...glad I'm not the only one.

Once I realized I could burn at full speed with the non-DVDAS software, I felt better that the new hardware wasn't at fault.
