Issues VEGAS Pro 21 build 300 - Freezing when add video

joshua-noesser wrote on 4/9/2024, 10:41 AM

Just installed the latest build, and every time I click out of the software and back in, the software freezes up for 15 or so seconds. Then it rebuilds thumbnails all over again. Is anyone else having this issue?

So every time I drag a new clip in it just freezes up.

Here is the video of what is happening. Note that the video is 37 minutes so far. The content is 4k 60fps, 10 bit, while another line is 5.3k 60fps.

You can see that when I drop the video in, it just freezes. When it stops freezing, it starts rebuilding all the thumbnails.

It seems like the application is locking up when it is reactivated after the drag from windows explorer. You might want to try switching off the "Close media files when not the active application" option in the general preferences. The delay may be similar to issues that some users are seeing with long delays when opening their projects.

Just made the change, and that seems to help so far. I will keep testing.

Thank you for the help!!! Very much appreciated

Just wondering, what did I turn off? Sounds obvious but what will this change?

@joshua-noesser When that option is checked, when VEGAS loses focus, it closes all of the files in the project so that other programs can access/change those files. If you were sending an image to a photo program to make changes, saving the photo, and then going back to VEGAS, those changes would be automatically picked up by VEGAS once focus was returned but VEGAS has to "reopen" all of those files.

With that option unchecked, VEGAS keeps the files locked so it does not have to reopen them upon return. However, as in the case above, you tried to save the changed photo, it would not let you because "the file is locked" so you'd need to save under a different name and the update VEGAS to use that new file instead of the old one.

Unchecking that option lets VEGAS be much faster because it's not closing/opening files all the time upon losing and gaining focus.
