It's freezing in here!

Ok,

Here's the problem, running vegas 7 and importing 4 PNG sequence animations. "Particle Illusion Alpha Channle Files that is" When I combine them all and start to work with them vegas freezes. I reinstalled twice and still have no luck. Any suggestions? I tried the 7a update and it just tells me that I allready have Vegas 7 installed.

Any Ideas?...

I couldn't replicate the problem here when I imported a PNG sequence. I'm also running 7.0a, but I"m not sure if that it would make it any different. If you're having problems upgrading, try uninstalling Vegas 7 and then installing 7.0a from scratch.

How "big" are your animations?

Project size, png size, number of png files total?
Obsedion wrote on 9/21/2006, 10:21 PM
There are now 4 seperate layers to this animation, The tornado, forground rubble traveling right, background rubble traveling left, and circular spinning dust for under the storm. Each animation is about 300 frames long at 29.97. to total 1200 png's. I have deleted the downloaded upgrade and installed the CD Version that was mailed to me and am having the same problem. I tried closing out all apps including Zone Alarm with no luck. I get one of three things happen. I either get a "Critical Error" message with program crash, A straight program crash, or Vegas 7 Freezes.

any ideas?

I don't know IF this is a similar blip, but yesterday I had a PNG sequence that I applied Paste Event Attributes [PEA]- this to answer another question here on the Forum - and it didn't work.

I then started another instance of Vegas and used some AVIs to repeat the test. This worked - PEA worked. Hmmm? I thought .. interesting.

Went BACK to the original PNG issue and PEA-ed again on them - Guess what? It worked. This HAD been the first time I had used PEA on PNGs in V7a. So I'm wondering if there is some subset needing to be "kicked-started" to happen. I shall be re-testing this today, and if I produce a TRUE positive I will report it to SONY.

So, although not exactly the same as your issue, it IS dealing with PNGs. I don't know how differently Vegas treats PNGs and AVIs. In the past we have had "other" media manipulation in the past - do people remember the JPG thing? I have no reason to think that this may be something similar, but you have alerted me, and I am taking note.

What I do know, if there is a problem, Madison will be on the case to sought to cure it. We have some very good friends at Madison.

If you want to re-install or upgrade Vegas there is no need to uninstall first. But do get rid of the files in the Sony Setup catalogue.

Nope, I can't re-pro what I was getting yesterday. PNGs are taking PEA function well. I'm done.

With 1200 PNG in your project maybe you ran into a storage problem. Your Ram might have been eaten depended on your system specs. Just a thought though ...

Try turning off thumbnails and waveforms under View.
With V6 I could run several hundred 3Kx2K jpegs on the T/L but it was like editing in clotted cream until I turned off the thumbnails.
Rememer everytime you move about the T/L Vegas has to reread all those big files and rescale them. If there's a memory leak problem it'a things like that that'll make it happen for sure.

Also, first try running your experiment for only 10 frames, and see if it works. If it does, it may be a memory issue.

A visit to Accessing more than 2.0 GB of memory on Windows XP might help you.

Also just a heads up: Reinstalled Vegas 6 and no problems at all. Has not crashed once and am nearly done with the project. Have several more PNG animations added.

I don't know what the problem is but there is a problem and It is in Vegas 7.
