It takes time to import some videos.

Lately I've had a very recurring problem that when I open some videos in .mp4 format, VEGAS remains freezed for about 2 minutes and then every time I unfocus the program window, it takes the same time to unfreeze and I can re-edit.

The case is curious why there are videos most of the time they are larger and with the same encoding, all the same and not of this problem.

What's causing this?

It is the same with some mkv, When you know which mp4/mkv does this, NEVER load them from a mechanical hard drive, depending on how large they are, they'll never load, even from SSD it is incredibly slow. What Vegas is doing, I don't know. To confirm that's what's happening check your drive activity, probably at 100% while you wait for the file to show,

If you give up and try to use Vegas while it's reading the file Vegas will crash as is probably happening in your example with white screen of Vegas death.

Options - Preferences - uncheck the "Close media when not the active application" option.

Thank you for your explanation, I thought that was the case, but the strange thing is that it only happens with some videos, sometimes I open larger ones (40gb+) and it doesn't give me the same problem.
