Izotope Plugins not recognized on new install on new laptop

jeffagwm wrote on 7/28/2021, 3:45 PM

Hello,

I have just purchased a new laptop (Asus Zenbook Pro Duo) and trying to get everything installed and working. I can't seem to get Vegas 18 Pro to recognize my RX8 Plugins. It sees the RX7 plugins which are in the same folder. The same RX8 and Vegas versions on my old laptop worked fine.

  • Win10 Pro
  • Intel Core 19-10980
  • 32 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
  • Vegas 18 Pro (build 527)
  • Izotope RX8 - (plugs are VST2/VST3 compatible)

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try different? As I mentioned this is a new laptop. I installed Vegas before I installed the other audio software. Since I have been having issued I uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas to see if it would make any difference having the plugins already on the computer before Vegas was installed, but no change. I have re-scanned the VST folders multiple times. As noted the RX7 plugins which are in the same folder show up.

I also have Adobe Premiere Pro 2021 CC and Adobe Audition 2021 CC installed on the same computer. All VST plugins show up and work as expected.

Many thanks in advance.

Did you install the VST2 version of the plugins?

jeffagwm wrote on 7/28/2021, 4:40 PM

When I installed RX8 it did not give me the option to choose any particular version - VST2, VST3, etc. Neither did RX7 when I installed it. ON the Izotope Product portal it just says 'Plug-in Formats: AU, AAX, VST2, VST3. All plug-in formats are 64-bit only." I presume, though I maybe wrong, that the the one .dll file is good for both VST2 and VST3. I will do some more investigation with RX to see if I can specifically choose which flavor of VST to install.

jeffagwm wrote on 7/28/2021, 5:19 PM

So I did more investigation and found that RX installs both VST2 and VST3 Plugins. The VST3 are installed in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 and the VST2 plugins are installed in C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins. Everything else in the VST2 folder is installed except the RX8

RogerS wrote on 7/28/2021, 6:28 PM

In preferences/VST, just point Vegas to the VST2 folder as VST3s do not work right in Vegas. I'm using RX8 Standard, Nectar and more.

jeffagwm wrote on 7/29/2021, 2:32 PM

I do already have Vegas pointing to the folder where the VST2 plugins are located. IN that folder are plug ins for Neutron Elements, Ozone 9, MeldaProductions, RX 7 and RX 8. Neutron, Melda and RX7 all show up in Vegas, Ozone 9 and RX8 do not. As I said earlier this is a brand new laptop, all the plugins worked just fine on the older one that is being replaced. So I am still trying to puzzle out what is happening.

RogerS wrote on 7/29/2021, 9:35 PM

Try a reset of Vegas by holding control and shift on startup? Let go when prompted to clear the cache.

Under preferences VST are the new ones checked? Are they visible?

jeffagwm wrote on 7/29/2021, 10:39 PM

@RogerS I tried the reset but no change. The VST Preferences is set to point to the correct folder, but the RX8 and Ozone 9 don't show up. Lost of other do that are in the same folder.

Then I had another wrinkle. I tried to see if Neutron was working, it opened but then I got an error message 'VST Server is not responding' as shown in the screen shot.

I have not seen this message before nor do I know what it means. Is this a component of VEgas, windows, or Steinberg? I do also have Spectralayers 7 installed on the system

RogerS wrote on 7/29/2021, 10:52 PM

Can you share a screenshot of preferences/vst effects? I just checked mine against steinberg and I have almost everything.

Re: VST server, can you restart the computer and try again? Looking at Windows task manager I see Vegas Pro, error reporting client and VST server 32-bit together so I assume these are all Vegas.

Here are some screen shots.

The first is showing the VST setting in Vegas

This one is showing the location of the RX7 plugins that are loaded in Vegas

And this last one is showing the folder on the computer that contains the RX8 as well as the RX7 even though the RX8 are not getting loaded.

RogerS wrote on 7/30/2021, 12:23 AM

I wonder if this is a limitation where Vegas sees plugins of the same name and only loads one of them. Do you need to keep RX7 around if you have RX8?

You don't have this folder in your preferences.

RogerS wrote on 7/30/2021, 1:06 AM

That's a good catch. Are the RX8 files in the x86 Steinberg folder? You need the VST2s for Vegas.

Dr Zen wrote on 7/30/2021, 4:09 AM

In the last 7 days I upgraded to RX8 Standard after using RX Elements.
I also have a large collection of iZotope plugins installed and they all show in Vegas Pro 18.

I'm wondering if the ordering of your VST folder locations is causing a weird problem?

I noticed @jeffagwm you put the Steinberg folder in Default VST folder box in VP preferences.
Have you tried using the order in my screen shot below ?
1. C:\Program Files\VSTplugins\
2. C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins\

And I don't use any other VST folder addresses.

Reset Vegas Pro again, then try the same order I use.

Regards
Derek

@Dr Zen Many thanks, your post led me to the answer. My RX8 and Ozone 9 plugin are showing and accessible in Vegas. I did not change my order. What is did change was the Steinberg VST from the 32 bit to the 64 bit. I noticed in your post that you had C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VstPlugins\ while I had C:\Program Files(x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins\. I just switched to the 64-bit folder and it all work. Many thanks to everyone who helped to lead me to the solution.

@jeffagwm That is excellent news!
Looks like I can cancel my interview for the old folks home and have a few more good years left in me.
iZotope audio plugins are like using magic from another dimension. I also upgraded my old Nectar Suite to Nectar 3 Plus and it's simply incredible to use 👽😍

Saved me ! .. iZotope makes great plugins but installation is a pain .. this worked as I was setting up my new machine.

I am reviving this thread b/c I recently bought izotope rx 10 and it is installed and working great in CUBASE. Totally not available for VEGAS. I have followed the explorer paths listed above and I can't find the dll's anywhere on my computer- but they must be there cause they are working in CUBASE - any tips to make them accessible to VEGAS would be appreciated ( My old RX6 plugins are showing in vegas)

Based on your using Vegas Pro 17 (as per your signature), it is correct that RX10 plugins will not appear in Vegas Pro 17. This is because RX10 plugins are VST3 only and VST3 support in Vegas Pro only became available in Vegas Pro 20 (the current version). The following is from RX10's product page:

@Dexcon, I obviously need to update my profile. You are correct that 17 does not work with VST3. I have upgraded to Vegas 20 and can confirm that RX10 works great in Vegas 20. I have RX10 set as the default audio editor, so right-clicking on an audio clip and choosing to 'Open in Audio Editor' opens the clip in the RX10 interface, and all the RX10 modules appear in the Vegas Audio FX Menu

Dexcon wrote on 5/16/2023, 8:37 PM

@jeffagwm ... please note that the reference to the 'signature' refers to the comment made today by AaronL about his issue with RX10 plugins in Vegas Pro 17. Perhaps it would have been better for AaronL to have started a new post to avoid confusion with your issue raised nearly 2 years ago.
