Jerky and delay in preview window

Using VMS Platinum HD 10 I download video clips to a file on PC (Camera Hitachi DZ-HV575E not recognized for direct download) these AVI clips are then imported into VMS. When these are placed in the video timeline the result in preview is jerky but if I play the clips in the trimmer window the preview is good. If I test the clips directly into VLC Media player the play back is again good. There is also an additional problem with a delay, I will try and explain, as the play cursor moves from one clip to another the preview remains showing the first clip for some time after the play cursor has moved to the second clip. I have used VMS 6 and 8 for many years now without experiencing this problem. I am using a Dell Inspiron PC, Pentium 4 with 1.5 RAM and as stated previously now trouble in the past.
Many thanks if you can help.

As a matter of interest I rendered the project and sent it to DVD Architect and then used the Preview facility and again the result was good. Obviously the delay and jerkyiness makes editing difficult.

Obviously the delay and jerkyiness makes editing difficult.

Unfortunately, this is true with VMS10. Look at the many threads already discussing this issue.

You need a faster PC, and possibly a different camera. These digirecorders, that are neither proper P&S or camcorders, are difficult to decode. I'd go for a dual core PC and the Canon 100HS personally. Way better quality than the Hitachi or any other digirecorder for that matter.

I'm personally able to edit these Canon P&S digicam 1080/24p footage on my Intel i3 (mobile version) at 1.3 Ghz DELL laptop without a problem with Platinum 10.

Thanks for advice. I have solved my problem after reading various threads and reports. If I close down all background operations including internet and internet security and using draft preview everything works reasonably satisfactory. The final rendered version in DVDA is fine without any problems. Thanks to you both again for taking the time to respond.
