You could try the Reduce Interlace Flicker check-box in the event Properties. It sometimes helps.

How long does the credit roll run? Not having seen it, it sounds like you might need to make it longer to roll smoother, if that makes any sense.

My problem is also credits-related so I didnt want to start a new thread: I set my long string of credits on timed and scrolling slowly from bottom to exiting slowly at top... how come it starts off slowly for about four or five seconds -- and then the credits just FLY away lightening fast? Like I said, I set the thing to enter from the bottom slowly and exit to the top slowly but it still likes to SPEED when it reaches the top. Why is this?

NuOmegaAlpha: Its possible your velocity envelope has got an angle to it (knob higher on the end than the beginning) . Or an errant keyframe.

Need to know a lot of stuff like what are you rendering to, what are your preferences set to and about 1000 other things. What size font, are you viewing it on monitor or tv set?

I had a number of problems getting credits the way I liked in Vegas. The Boris Graffiti plug in works wonders and is well worth the money.

Are you doing credit roll with the Credit Roll feature, or are you doing it using event motion or track motion? The latter two features (where you move the text with keyframes) gives you far more flexibility, but I have never gotten as smooth results.

Ok, thanks for the replies, everyone. JJ, I can answer the questions you posed - don't know how to respond to the "1000's" of other things you need to know.

My font point size is 25. I'm rendering from one hard drive (the one containing my various media) to an empty HD using the NTSC-DV template - I've checked the box for forced resampling under the event properties dialog box. Also checked are maintain aspect ratio (I doubt that would have any effect on smoothness/jerkiness), and reduce interlace flicker.

This credit roll is long. I got the speed I'm after by using a velocity envelop. I then stretched the event so the beginning and ending comes onto and off the screen with the amount of blank (black) screen I want to show on each end.

I've been working with Vegas long enough to know I needed to test before wasting the time to render the entire clip, so I highlighted about two mintutes of it, then rendered the highlighted area only.

When I say it's jerky, I don't mean grossly so. Some people probably would not complain - but I know it can be silky smooth - that's what I'm after.

This jerkiness in not unlike what I get with slow motion if I don't resample.

Hope that gives you a better idea of where I'm coming from.

Ask me some more pointed questions if you need more info - and, thanks for any help you can offer.

I would hate to have to do this, but, I'm tempted to just load up Studio 7, assemble my credit roll, render it, then us system restore to remove it from my system.

I'm not very fond of Studio 7, but the titling is simple and reliable.

I'd much rather complete this from within Vegas, however.

Thanks again.

Oh, I forgot to answer one of the questions - I'm using the credit roll feature. I could try key framing, I suppose.

The longest credit roll I have done is about three minutes. Text over a jpg picture. Sometimes with certain FX's and or splices wierd things will happen. If there are any FX's applied delete them out and try another render.

So, the only FX I can think of are the velocity (I've used an envelop to slow velocity down) and the font (nothing fancy).

I must be missing something - they wouldn't call this feature "credit roll" if it worked consistently at the low level I'm experiencing.

A question for Vegas 5.0 users. Does the Graffiti package included with the new version have the rolling credit option built in? This would be a great and easy solution to the problem.

I think your problem was stretching the credit roll event. Instead, try increasing the duration of the event in the credit roll properties.

If I understand the media generator correctly, it creates the number of frames of media based on the length of the event in the properties dialog, and the frame rate of the project.

If you stretch generated media with motion, like a credit roll, it will become jerky.

You can test this by creating a 1 second credit roll, and then stretching it out over 30 seconds.

Best of luck,

John.

Are they still using the same amateurish credit roll in Vegas 5 that they used in Vegas 2, 3, and 4?
Have any of the quirky things we have complained about in Vegas 3 and 4 been fixed in this new version?
