Jerky Reverse Motion

When I try to make .MOV videos from my Nikon Coolpix S8100 run backward they are very jerky. When I reverse some files from Youtube it works great. I assume Vegas Movie Studio 10 does not like the type of file it is getting from my camera. Is there anything I can do to my videos to make them work smoothly. I have converted them to .AVI and MP4 using FreeMake Video Converter and it did no good.

Is there a camera that produces video files that would work?

Does this only happen during preview or is it also in the rendered file?

Is your camera footage interlaced or progressive? I find Vegas doesn't do a good job with reversing interlaced footage and you might be better off converting it to progressive first.
