I'm working on a 1920x1080P project and having playback problems.
as soon as a add an additional video track, playback deteriorates. Audio plays fine, but video is lagging severely. so much so, that it is making editing very difficult.

Any suggestions?
here is my system info:
Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1
Intel Core2 Quad Q6700@ 2.66GHz
4 GB Ram
64 bit OS
AMD Radeon HD6700

Thanks for the help

Have you tried dropping the preview window to Preview/Auto or even lower?
Your machine is similar to mine (system 1) and it doesn't handle some of the new HD formats particularly well.
I don't know about you but it's new system time for me.

Match your project settings to media.
Disable scale to fit preview
Run at Preview quality
If it is fx that are slowing you down, prerender.

Problem RESOLVED!
It appears to me, that you must import EX footage using the explorer window, as opposed to extracting footage using the XDCAM EX clipbrowser software, that Sony says "is required" to properly extract footage from an SxS card.
Playback is flawless using Vegas' tool.

Glad to hear that you got it solved as your solution never would've occurred to me :)

I shoot with an EX1 and have no issues with Vegas.

1) Backup cards, vital step.
2) Using Clipbrowser Export for NLE as MXF
3) Open Vegas, from explorer Add To Media Pool
4) Have long coffee break
5) Drag clips from Media Pool to T/L

Vegas can take a very long time processing clips form the EX cameras and during that time if you try to play them back preview performance is at best bad, at worst you can cause Vegas to hand or crash.

IF you have clips that span cards then do the following

1) as before.
1a) Using Clipbrowser move all clips into the one BPAV folder.
Then proceed from 2).

Vegas will not correctly join clips that span cards.
You can also use Vegas's Device Explorer to handle XDCAM EX footage.
Make certain you understand where it is putting your media as it imports it, the default is not good.

For takes including spanned files, use Bob's method above.

If there are no spanned files, or they do not need to be joined, simple copy the BPAV folder to it's working drive and folder, scan the BPAV folder with Media Manager (include subfolders) and display as thumbnails. Drag and drop on the timeline.

That will use the original .mp4 files the same as when importing using the Vegas device explorer without the initial re-copy.. Saves a lot of time.
