Jittery Video

I just bought Vegas Video 3.0 I had Videofactory for the longest time and I loved it, not many problems. But now that I have Vegas Video 3.0 when I preview my video, it jerks the video back and forth every couple of seconds like it is have trouble keeping up. The audio sounds fine. I have a 7200 RPM hard drive. BUT, with Videofactory and a 5400 RPM hard drive, I never had that problem. Does anyone have a solution? I check my hard drives and they are set up "DMA". It was suggested that I get a "Service Pack" from Microsoft, but not sure where to find it. ANy suggestions?

1) What version of windows do you have?

2) The burst issues is common because the preview is trying to update the feed real time, this causes the burst you are seeing, I was a assured by VV tech support and I can vouch my self, that unless you ARE seeing some problem with the capture video.. it doesnt effect anything as far as the actualy capture video.

If you have a "slow" system, meaning your CPU speed is <1000 Mhz then events in the Preview windows may be slow and/or jerky.

Couple things to try. Do you have the Status Bar showing Project, Frame, Preview, Display underneath the Preview Window? If not, right click in that blank area underneath the Preview Window and enable Status Bar. The rate at which the Preview is being shown in the Preview Window is the number to the right of the Display Size. It changes in real time.

See what looks a little like a pound sign with a arrow on either side? Click on the left one and cycle through the various settings. This should dramadically change the speed indicated as I just mentioned. If it does, then the jerkyness is likely due to your system speed, which can be increased by upgrading your CPU.

if you are running the first version of windows 98 you may need to get the windows service pack. that will include SOME fixes. but... another thing may be processor speed. i have a 700 mhz and my videos sometimes take a couple of seconds to catch up. also are you rendering it correctly. if you are using avi files you may not be rendering it in the right format, which would make your video jumpy. also you may want your hard drives NOT to be dma, believe it or not, because you may not have enough memory.

Same computer and OS, just different HD's and VF vs. Vegas ? If yes, do you have the preview window set at 352x240, the same size as VF preview. There is also the preview quality settings that VF doesn't have. Change from good to preview.
Is the HD fragemented?

I dont have a problem with system speed, 1700 + and about a 1gb of DDR but other then the bursts there is no effect on the actualy captures, I use the advance mode for a more controlled frame to frame capture method, and I have no issues with anything that effects performance, or quality. Its just an aesthetique thing.
