JKL shuttle/jog bug?

TheHappyFriar wrote on 8/31/2003, 10:14 AM
I never get Vegas to crash, but today I was using the JKL jog keys for the first time in a while, and vegas would crash after a couple minutes of using them. It would crash with a window saying it crashed, and no details button, then sometimes it would crash with a details button. When I viewed the details button one time, it said there was an error with the direct input dll file.

It crashes if I use the JKL in the trimmer or on the timeline. Has anyone else had this problem? And. if you have, did you fix it?

I'm useing Vegas 4.0d, Windows 2k SP4, Directx 9.0, 512mb DDR RAM, Athlon XP 1800, Ausu A7V8X-x mb. No problems up till now!

could the dll file be corrupted or is it not the one from SoFo, maybe you've installed something else that replaced the original one which worked fine with VV but the new one doesn't.

Same thing here on my WinXP installation.

No problem on my W2k-installation.

I've heard about this problem from several users. Common seems to be - all used WinXP, had WindowsMediaPlayer 9 installed and deinstalled again.

Reinstalling Vegas might help. Reinstalling WinXP should help for sure, even going back to a Windows recovery point before WMP installation.

I use JKL all day every day in WinXP Pro. No troubles here.

I have seen a quirk where setting up my system for the Direct Sound Surround Mapper and having the JKL suttle spped set at fast in prefs creates an unstable environment.

I am using this with the Audigy 2 and when I jog along the timeline it can loose the plot.

Using the ASIO driver works better.

Hope this rings some bells.

Hey PAW, this was an excellent advice!
Seems we've been completely wrong thinking about the WMP 9 installation/deinstallation caused that problem.
On my XP system even the Direct Sound Surround Mapper was chosen. I changed it and now JKL-shuttle works fine.

Thank you!

I'm using Win2k and had Direct Sound Surround Mapper on. Changed to normal Wave mapper, and works fine. :) does anyone know if SF fixed the bug where if you use the JKL and your last job was backwards it rendered audio backwards?

Thanks for the Direct Sound advise!
