Marketing director?
I am of the silly belief that the right product will almost sell itself.
With a couple of tweaks and sensible new features, even the Pro tools guys wont have anything to compete with Vegas.
So how about it, build it right, then aim HIGH.
I want to see vegas in mags like Studio Sound, right along side the " big boys "
Right now people might laugh, but just a few more mods to our beloved vegas, and let em weep.

We could use more suits...LAB suits :)

Get some new suits to fix CD architecht.
Add some batch converters where they are needed
Add midi control of faders and such
Add tape machine style " auto-input " so us old dinosaur engineers can record with this thing.
Get a vegas to UA DSP adapter

Im sure wed pay extra for that

While I don't give a rat's a** about marketing directors, it is a fact that many companies with great products have failed because they weren't marketed well, or maybe weren't marketed at all, while many mediocre companies thrive because they have been shrewdly marketed. I'm all for letting SF know what we want but sometimes these forums sound like they're full of a bunch of whining, teenaged b*tches.

Right, forget fixing it, just stick it into a pretty package so it looks cool.
Dont matter if it works as long as it sells.
How could they market it any better, theres not a soul alive in this market who hasnt heard of vegas.
Only market up is the BIG boys, and it would be disasterous for them to review vegas as is.
So its down to the " best buy " compusa" crowd. Marketing to them might invole " dumbing down " vegas, and possibly do to vegas what happened to sf 5 compared to sf 4.5. Anyone REALLY want that ?
eek!

I'm with Action on this one. Y'all need to go back a re-read the job description. There is a wide range of responsibilities which will be handed to the successful candidate (who, by the way, has or will send in a resume as requested, rather than post here).

While the whiners here have not considered the possibility, I assume the opening results not from the creation of yet another "spot" on the SF team for "another suit", but, more likely as the result of the departure from the team by one who already holds the job.

Of the tasks required of the new individual, one of the most formidable will be to define, refine, and communicate perceived or created needs which can profitably be marketed, then, to organize, prioritize, and communicate those needs, and steps required to develop and bring to market software that will meet (or at least be perceived to meet) those needs so that future SF products will be vialbe in the market place at prices that will support further development.

Sounds simple on paper. Not so simple in practice.

VV ain't perfect, but it's a damned good product. Whether you believe it or not, SF reads and considers each and every improvment suggestion, every bug report, and, based on the quality of VV, I'm guessing that they practice some defined path of prioritizing each message as to its validity, the feasability of its incorporation into the project, and the impact/cost of incorporation on the bottom line.

So, if you're interested in the job, be thankful that SF had enough respect for the posters on this board to bother posting the opening here.

If the job does not interest you, then, well . . . quichyerbitchin.

I posted this here just in case any of you know, or perhaps are yourself, a candidate for this gig. It's a cool job!

No offense, but PipelineAudio and Alan G: you guys must not run your own companies. Or, if you do, you must not set your sights very high! :-)

You've got to realize the pivotal role marketing plays in the life of any product - or service for that matter. Repeat business and high customer satisfaction ratings are the results of simply having a great product - sales figures are largely the result of marketing! And I, for one, think SF has something worth marketing in Vegas. Plus the more they sell, the more money they have for R&D...and we all like that!
