John Meyer's Secondary Color Corrector preset

Sticky Fingaz wrote on 12/23/2003, 11:06 AM
I had great luck with his preset for removing saturation, but it only got rid of reds. What do you guys recommend for getting saturation out of other colors IE: blue? I'd love to simply "desaturate" but it leaves very undesirable effects in some of the more severely saturated videos, such as an ugly jagged edge between where the color saturated onto another color.

Thanks!!

Try the Color Curves tool. One of the best, but oft overlooked tools there are. You can set it for a specific color, and then run 2-3 curves on one file/track for great results while maintaining very finite control.

The first thing to do is to work on the black and white levels. Once they are correct the rest is much easier. The eyedroppers work well for that using the Color Corrector Tools.
Don't forget that gamma will affect color intensity as well. Use it to darken or lighten the image instead of brightness.

Re: craftech's comment--When you say black and white levels, I don't think you're talking about the "black and white" plugin, are you? Are you talking about the eyedroppers in the color correction wheel plugin(s)? At this point I'm dealing with black and white levels by adjusting the corners of the Curves plugin.

By the way, I noticed that Glow has an eyedropper effect which if used very subtly, can enhance a whole scene to compliment the skin color of the actor on camera.

I have tried searching for this posts original reference to the presets for the Secondary Color Corrector and have not had any luck finding it. Could someone post the link for me.

Thanks

Don't know about the presets but I learned a WHOLE lot from BillyBoy's tutorials about color correction. The project I'm working on now is the first time I've felt like I have the slightest idea of what I'm doing in that regard. Actually went back and touched up my last vid. Hope it helps !
