New user: I have set-up different folders by scenes to keep everything organized. How do I join my scenes into one file? And will I loose any info when I do so (like text, effects, etc.) Thanks for any help.
I tihnk at the base of what you are getting to grips with is the terminology.
1 - What do you call a file? Is this a clip? Is this an event? Stuff that goes into the Bins is media - yes they are files - everything is a file.
2 - Our project "files" are " *.veg " - affectionately refered to here as Veggies.
"I have set-up different folders by scenes to keep everything organized. " - A Scene being an Event? Does the Event have all the text and stuff rendered in it already? - In which case no. Until you actually Render the stuf on the Timemline we don't have a finished media file WITH text effects and FXs - BUT the same Events in a Project file with FXs and Text treatments will remian there until you want to change them.
"How do I join my scenes into one file?" Put both events on the timeline, render and they are one event. OR you could "Group" them . .
" . . will I loose any info when I do so (like text, effects, etc.) " - No. Why do you think you might?
Yes, I definitely need to get grip on terminology. I am just trying to put my film together. I guess what I need to know is, should I render each scene (event) to a veg. file and then place all of my veg files onto a new timeline?
I had tried to copy an event one time (but I may not have rendered 1st) and paste it on to another timelime with other events but my text info was lost. THanks for the help.
Veggies contain many bits of media sitting either on your t/l OR within the Media Bins.
You render all your bits of media present on your T/L into one single finished piece.
There is more than this, but this is the basics.
Yes, you can . .and I do .. Sometimes I create several veggies that contain various parts of a final "film" - it really depends on the type of project I'm doing; what I'm trying to achieve; how "messy" the whole thing is, am I experimenting with some bits .. . Often my woprkflow/veggie managment changes at each turn of the project . ..
Roger;
What I've done (and I'm sure alot of other folks as well) with projects that have a number of different segments is to render each segment out as an avi. When you're done with all of them, start a new project, bring them back in and re-render to your final.
For example, a slideshow video that I just did had 5 different sections to it. Call them section1, 2, etc. I collected all necessary media for each one and then saved them as section1.veg, section2.veg, etc.
Each section was then worked on separately and, when I was happy with it, rendered out as section1.avi, section2.avi, etc.
When I was done with each section, I started a new project I called final.veg. The only files I imported for this were section1.avi, section2.avi, etc. Bring these up to the timeline and join them in whatever fashion you want (I used simple disollves), render it out as final.avi and I was done.
The other thing I did was to make sure I had extra video and, in some cases, audio at the start and end of each section's avi to make the final joining of the clips easier.
You're allowed to eat?? A real editor has IV tubes stuck in them for nourishment - and another one for what comes out. Eating/sleeping/bathroom breaks aren't in the job description. :-)
Thanks for the tutorial. I have about 15 segments that I have completed as vegs. I will import the individual vegs into a new project. Will the vegs sit in a media bin just like the clips will? Sorry for such elementary questions. I think I understand the concepts here, I'm just behind in terminology.
Vegas will not import multiple VEG files into a single project. Just render each one out as an AVI and then make a "final" project joining those AVI files.
