Jpeg output size

hendo wrote on 4/22/2002, 2:35 PM
Hi
After reading through the forum, I discovered that the output size of a jpeg photo should be 720x576. Having scanned a photo at this recolution and imported it into VF, I find that there is black bands surounding it, suggesting that it is to small.

I haven't rendered the scenes yet, as I am still using the demo version. Will the photo apear fine once it is rendered and back on to tape, or am I doing something wrong.

Thanks again in advance.

Andrew

Hendo: are you running PAL or NTSC? The size you list is correct for PAL, but for NTSC you should use 655x480.

Hi Chienworks
Thanks for your prompt reply, I am running Pal at 720 x 576. The black bands apear on the left and right and their width apears around 5mm on the preview window.

Hi
I have fiddled about with the scanners output resolution and at 780 x 575 the photo fits the preview window perfectly. I wonder how the photo will look in the finished video.

Hi,
Try to right click your jpgs on the timeline, click properties and uncheck "maintain aspect ratio".

Felix, this will cause the image to stretch which may not be desireable.

I always add images at full resolution. Then using the pan/crop tool, right-click the pan/crop rectangle and select "Match Output Aspect". This will eliminate all black borders around the image. I find this much easier and faster than cropping in an external graphics application. It also allows me to zoom without losing resolution.

Good info Jimcho...

Now you made me go back over my mothers day video of 20 minutes and edit all the picture ratios!!

You do have to comprimise a little depending on the picture what you want to display but I think it is worth it to fill the screen.

Thanks for the info.

Jimcho
What do you mean by 'full resolution'? Zbig

zbig, by 'full resolution', I simply mean whatever resolution the image was captured in. For instance, my digital camera captures at 1760x1168.
