Just bought VMS Plat-- Instal & Usage tips

Just bought the Platinum & scanned the last 500 posts. Great fourm. Would appreciate comments on any of these points to get started right:

1. To install on both laptop and desktop as Sony allows, do I register each time? Any issues downloading updates on both?

2. Do I have a studio version of DVD Architect 3.0? Are updates contained in the Movie Studio?

3. I have 2 disks for sound effects and the XMC. Haven't seen any discussion on these, are they not so good?

4. What about the SpiceMASTER 2.5 TFX card--are these good?

5. Thought this would be a one-stop package but seems to be discontent with the DVD burning portion. Or, are most people happy with it.

Thanks--look forward to using this.

1. I registered both times and the police have not knocked on my door (yet!)

3. I bought the download package and then opted out of the mailed disk set without realising I would not get some of the bundled content, and I cannot find a way of getting the disks sent on :(

5. I have wandered over from the Pinnacle Studio 10 debacle, installing Movie Studio in the last two weeks. I found that rather than pick up some of the aspects of the software by playing around I actually had to read the manual with Vegas. I started out by not liking the separate DVD architect module but having burnt 3 DVDs over the weekend (I had not been able to burn anything with Pinnacle since October) I really quite like it. In particular, it seems very good at spotting when it doesn't have to re-code material so making the burning process very quick on occasions.

The only "feature" in the main Movie Studion module I cannot get used to is when splitting and cutting material out of the main timeline. This results it the remaining bits of video/audio moving all over the place. I have tried this with "Auto Ripple" both off and on and still get unexpected results, with many clips needing "re-synchronisation" - which results in them ending up with slipped video, this is very confusing at times.

1. don't know - call the 800 number
2.yes - click about - check version - then click update link - jump to sony update list - compare version.
3. sound effects - okay. xmc - ehhh . . . .just be sure to check the disk for the loops you are supposed to have - for some wierd reason they don't install with the software - saving space maybe? - or maybe most people make their own loops - just have the disk handy or drop the files on your computer if you want to play with the program using the loops they include.
4. Spicemaster adds some more special effects to VMS. having special effects is good - having more is mobedda!
5. DVD program is fine for most people. The biggest problem people have is squeezing their video onto that dvd disk that allegedly holds "2 hours of video" hahaha. (bitrates? we don't need no stinking bit rates!) The older software version was awkward and sometimes frustrating. the latest release is much better with things like the "fit to disk" option which makes it a little easier to plan your video. Other than that there have been some menu issues for those who have a complex project - most of which have been worked out as near as I can tell.

have fun with it - I know I do

To keep from moving clips around after editing Cntl Click on each clip (highlighting each), right click, group, create new. This will lock them all together and you can move them around with slipping and sliding. To unlock, say to pull a clip out, right click, clear, or remove.

You can register on a desktop and laptop according to Sony EULA

2. Do I have a studio version of DVD Architect 3.0? Are updates contained in the Movie Studio?
Depends on when you bought the product, you can select "Help" on the toolbar, and it will take you to the page, you can see if you need an update.

3. I have 2 disks for sound effects and the XMC. Haven't seen any discussion on these, are they not so good?
They're very good, I don't know that you often see people discussing freebies in the box?

4. What about the SpiceMASTER 2.5 TFX card--are these good?
SpiceMaster ROCKS! I use these nearly every day in my workflow. Even if they're just for titles, there is SO MUCH they bring to the beauty and creativity...
