Exciting show, and it was great fun to see faces associated with what had just been names on this board.
I was very much impressed by the hundreds of new threads on the board, and everything has pretty much been discussed to death already. But a couple of things stand out in my groggy memory at this point (11:30pm Tuesday night):
(1) major major improvements in DVD-A
The changes immediately put Vegas+DVD into a category where a user can now crank out a DVD project as sophisticated as anyone else can. To me, at least, the changes are easily worth much more than the upgrade price.
(2) The new Sony HDV camcorder is wonderful. As many have already seen on this board or elsewhere, it's kind of a chubbier PD150/170 (the lens barrel must be about 5 inches in diameter). Rumor was that it would be coming out around Christmas for a suggested retail of around $7k. The presentation slide said it would do 1080v X 1440h using MPEG2 on miniDV tape with a bitrate the same as DV, 25Mb/sec.
(3) The enthusiasm at the Vegas event reminded me of my days at Apple back when the Mac was first being introduced. You kind of get the "religion" and it makes wonderful things possible. With Sony's financial backing, this could be a very interesting next couple of years.
Now to sleep.
