Just got a FireWire but I need help

Hi
Just got my FireWire card.
I'm still waiting for the Canopus ADVC-100 (I hope I'll get it tomorrow).
I installed the card (WinXp) no problem at all.
(detected as Texas Instruments OHCI compliant 1394 host controller).
When I select the 1394 device Under Options>Preferences>Video Device in VV3
I get this:

"This device supports recompression
Hot pluggable device
Device unavailable"

Is it normal since I didn't connect a DV device yet ?
Is that what you get when nothing is connected to the FireWire port?
I got the exact message before I installed the card .
So ?
Is there a problem here or do I need to connect a DV device and VV3 will detect it

Can't really help too much as I am a beginner in this game. However, I got a file from SF yesterday which helped explain installing my newly purchased Firewire. It describes the way in install and uninstall drivers for various systems. Has pics of the windows devices. I you would like it send me an email to jschneff@pacifier.com
