Just had major disaster with a project in V22. Clips overlapped +

A project I'd been working on for quite awhile, suddenly became unresponsive. So I closed the project, and when I reopened it, many clips now overlapped and groups of clips were duplicated, all of this causing havoc in my editing process. And now, moving things around, trying to restore order, things don't seem to work as expected.

I had even been getting close to finishing this 15 minute video project, and this set me back at least a week. Yes, I went back to Veg.bak files, using "Everything," and when I opened several of them, same thing. I don't expect a solution/fix to what happened, but can anyone suggest what caused this?

I should mention that I've been using Vegas Pro since it was in single digit iterations, and nothing like this has ever happened before.

@Len Kaufman, you can use the built-in auto save program to save different versions or install Excalibur and there's a free Auto Save plugin there that will save the file with date/time as well as the original file name letting you keep multiple versions. It also has a special "Auto Save Now With Note" option so you could see a certain point of time.

@jetdv @dmt3 Thank you for your reply. Yes, I had autosave running, but when I went back to the veg.bak files, they uploaded with the same problems.

I should also mention that the various files that had overlaps had increase/decrease brightness curves in them. When I went to undo the curves, after separating all of the clips, I couldn't undo the curves. Had to replace the files with the originals. I also had to go into the timeline and delete all of the duplicate clips that had manifested themselves. Now, about 2 hours later, I've got it sorted.

I had not previously heard of Excalibur before and I'll certainly check that out. Thank you for that.

@Len Kaufman, I'm not talking about the .bak file. I'm talking about separate files saved in a separate folder. Look at Tools - Advanced Save for the current version built into VEGAS.

For Auto Save installed with Excalibur, look here: http://www.jetdv.com/excalibur/new6.php

Excalibur: http://www.jetdv.com/excalibur/home.php has been around starting with Sonic Foundry Vegas 4 (and modified/expanded greatly over the years.)

@jetdv Thank you. I'll check that out right now. This might resolve one of the suggestions I posted in "suggestion thread" on this site.
