Did you upgrade in the middle of your project? Big no-no if so. If so, remember that once you save something in vegas 6, you CANNOT open it back up in Vegas 5.

No, I am starting new. :)

I am hoping they have included the update in all new shipped software. Updating is no big deal anyways.

Thanks for the reply.

I believe updates are only available by download. I dont believe they press new discs with updated versions.

Until you receive your shipment, you should still be able to use the functions that arent included in the demo as long as you have Vegas 5 installed (i.e. mpeg encoding, AC3, etc...)

Yeah, Conley, look out for threads discussing Sonar when you are in here. I have found they do not all go as planned. <g>

Is it possible to save as (v4/v5) from within V6? (eg if you're not using new features yet that aren't avail in earlier versions?)

That would be important, especially when migrating to a new release.. eg like in powerpoint or excel, you can save as a prior version.. eg File/Save As .. just as in Flash, eg you can save in a prior version format.

Does Vegas not allow that?

If you are outputting to tape, I am having trouble in VEGAS 6 with levels POPPING at the beginning and end of dissolves and other overlapping transitions.

I would be leary of using the Media Manager right off the bat.

I've also recently upgraded. I instructed the MM to find all of the files in my asset library (about 3500 of them), and then proceeded to tagging the files appropriately, removing undesirable clips and audios, etc. The thing crashes on me all of the time. I haven't diagnosed a particular pattern, but it often crashes when removing an asset.

So my advice is to try to organize your media manager after you finish your first project and you have the time and patience to do so.

Ken, no, Vegas does not allow saving as previous versions. I can understand why too ... what should Vegas do if your project includes features not available in earlier versions? If they were simply ignored then you would probably end up with a project that didn't resemble what you wanted well enough to be worth using.
