JVC GZ-HD7U and TOD files

Just got a JVC GZ-HD7U camera, and am trying to figure out what the TOD file extensions actually are. The camera comes with proprietary software, which can downloaded the files via USB or fire wire to a computer hard drive, and does basic editing. As the camera is detected in "My Computer" as a hard drive, I found that I could copy and paste them into a folder on my computer hard drive. Vegas does not recognize the TOD files as a video file, but if you have Vegas look at all files, it sees the TOD files, which can be import to the timeline, where they seem to be handled as HDV files. The files appear to be .mt2 stream.

In Avid Liquid 7.2, all you need to do is change the TOD extension to M2T and it imports and edits easily. This does not work however with Vegas and I have no idea why. In fact you can change the TOD extension to ANYTHING and it still won't work in Vegas.

Vegas simply will not take a TOD file.... you will have to use the supplied software to first convert.

Vegas can handle the TOD file as is!
File>Import> Files of type>All Files>whatever the file is named.TOD. Vegas will import the file as a video file into Project Media, and you can double click, or drag it into the timeline, and edit it. Works just fine, no need to change the extension as you say has to be done in liquid. You can also specify open the file with Vegas, and Vegas will import the .TOD file to project media and place it in the timeline. Strange, that’s why I was wondering what the TODD file actually is.

That propritory software install disc might put in something that Vegas needs.

Did not install the software. Was going to but realized that the camera was showing up as a hard drive and tried importing the TOD files directly into Vegas, and it worked.
