I have the vs10 one which was the 1st one of this kind of pc. I like it, but would really like to get the dvs3, as it is set up to doing exactly what you want are wanting to do. You can go into the firewire input now and copy directly to VHS or Mini-DV. Also can be controlled by firewire from the pc. Yes, it is pricey but handy.

The reason I asked was I read an article on the HR-DVS2 and they weren't too impressed with its ability to "talk" to computers via the firewire on the recorder and the computers. They used several video packages but VV wasn't among them

Is this only offered in the Europe? I can't find it on JVC's US website, but did find it on the UK site. I would be interested in one of these babies in the future.

I would like one myself, although a bit pricey. This one is supposed to be better and "pc friendlier" than the 20U was. Here is a website in the US that has it.

Yes - I live in the UK - If they do eventually release it in the States then it'll probably be half the price it is over here. My local HiFi shop wants £1000 (approx. $1450) for one but Ive tracked it down on the Internet for £737. Still a large investment but as my old Video Recorder has just packed up I thought I would take the plunge

I recently bought the SR-VS30, which is the professional version of the HR-DVS3. It is sold in the US (I got mine from www.bhphoto.com), and it does indeed talk to the computer much better than was reported with the "2" line. I haven't used it enough to report anything concrete, but it has performed as hoped and expected. You can print and capture directly to/from (S)VHS via firewire, which is the main reason I wanted one.

My one complaint so far is the lack of a firewire port on the back -- the only one is on the front, which kind of clutters my work desk. Not that big a deal though. On the up side, it has a faster response time than my Canon XL1s with Sonic Foundry's capture utility.

Once I put it through its paces I'll report more if you need.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the SR-VS30?
