Kai's Power Goo - Ever Used It?

Last time I was over in the great U.S of A, (7 years ago) I bought a copy of Kai's Power Goo. I played about with it for a while then put it into my 'filing cabinet' aka 'wardrobe' to be lost forever.

That was before I ever got involved with NLE and filed it away because I couldn't find a practical use for it.

Well just recently I needed to distort a few images for one of my short creations and remembered Power Goo. I dusted off the cobwebs, installed it and hey, it's brilliant. The results are very good and it's quick and easy.

And you can output to AVI.

I think bigger and better versions are now available but only on CD but the price seems extremely good value.

Definately worth looking in to.

Kai Krauss was one of most interesting characters, back in the days when the computer industry was filled with larger-than-life, sometimes bizarre people. I saw him give a demo, appropriately enough, at Demo 98 in Palm Springs. While he didn't win the "demo god" award that year (my client did, actually, and thank you for asking), he did give one of the most professional and interesting demos of the entire conference.

His ideas on user interface were, to put it mildly, "out there." Power Tools is a great example. There's nothing else quite like it anywhere. Lots of fun to play with, and my kids loved it when they were young, but only for about ten minutes. It's fun to "moosh" someones face into goo, but then what?

For just the right project, for just a few seconds of video, the output from it could indeed be fantastic. However, a little goes a long way.

<but then what? >

Yes John, exactly. That's why I stashed it away several years ago.

But for the right project, used in moderation, it can add that little extra.
And once you've got used to the oddball interface it's so easy to use and fast.

so easy to use and fast

Kai Krauss = Fast

He wrote some extremely fast code.

So if he could do it all those years ago, why can't others?

Does Power Tools include morphing and if so is it as good, as fast and as easy as Goo?

I think I've still go that thing somewhere. It did do some neat tricks with a bit of work. I agree I don't recall seeing anything like it since.

Bob, do you mean Power Goo or Power Tools?
