I have an old Kanguru drive. It works fine, however it is way overpriced in my opinion. Take a look at the Maxtor external firewire drives. I have one of those too and even though it is just a 5400 RPM drive it has no trouble. Since I haven't yet tried to print to tape (still no camera) maybe someone else can confirm if there is or isn't issues with dropped frames. I doubt it.

Now you want a still better solution?

Everyone knows how much room video editing takes on a hard drive, especially if saved in uncompressed format. So here's the latest I came up with.

I bought a disk caddie. They only cost about $20. This is just a two part metal cage that slips into one of the slots normally used by a CD drive or CD burner. So you need a "open" slot in your PC front panel. The outer part has a standard IDE cable on one side you plug into your motherboard. The second part accepts a standard IDE disk drive. ANY SIZE. Mine, I just got a 100GB. Cute, the second part has a handle and slides in and out of the outer cage. So in effect I can have a bootable drive with any operating system I want, or (assuming you got a BIG case) have several or just one set aside for storage. Because it is portable you can pull it and plug it in another PC assuming you popped for another outer cage. The two advantages over firewire externals are SPEED and cost. For the money you would spend on a 50GB firewire, you can probably get a 100GB drive. For example I just picked up the 100GB for a little over $200. Just thought I'd pass it along. :-)
