first of all I’d like to thank all of you for their contributions to this wonderful forum.

I have a question, for a djembe course, some friends of mine and I are following, we would like to make some sort of “instruction video”.
We have “filmed” the instructor, and now it would be nice to put on the bottom of the video the “type of stroke” according with the strokes the instructor is playing, like the “karaoke effect”.

For example :
the rythem to be played goes like this :
F D D D D D T T T (notes)
2 R L R L R R L R (hand positions)

The moment the first note is played, the first “column” should become red,
the second note, the second note, and so on.
Wat I’ve done tried so far is :
I have 3 video tracks : (for the effect only)
1. Text with notes and hand position
2. Red square which I move from the left to the right below the text
3. White background

Text characters are used as alpha channel.

Then on each note the instructor is playing, I’ve added a keyframe point (hold type) on which I shift the red square one character to the right. (manually)
This works, but it's very time consuming.
The problem is, I have to do this for about 25 excersises, each about 3 minutes in length,
with increasing speed of rythem. So I cannot “reuse” any of the “keyframes”. I have to set manually all the keyframes.

Any of you have a better solution to such a thing?
