Keeping a crop through the render

I have cropped video (turning 16:9 into 4:3--yeah, I know, just go with me) that I can't seem to get to render. It looks just perfect, exactly how I want it in the preview window. But when I render it shrinks it so I can see all the cropped areas again. I have tried both "Stretch video to fill" and not. Both screw up my crop. I have the project set at NTSC (no widescreen) in the project properties. I cropped using the event pan crop button on the media I wanted cropped.

In other words, how do I render exactly what is in the preview window. Seems like that should be automatic. ??

Help!

Did you also choose NTSC DV as the Make Movie template? Also right click on the video in the timeline, choose Properties and deselect "Maintain aspect ratio".

Tried it on AVI video source and it worked for me.

Doing the exact opposite (4:3 to 16:9) works for me using this trick:

You might want to adapt this tutorial for the opposite case, it should create the output you are looking for.

Thanks for the replies. Those things are all set, but still nothing. It looks perfect through the preview. Then the minute I start the render, the preview drops back to pre-crop format. I let it go all the way through the render once to see if it was just a faulty preview, but it wasn't. It rendered wrong as well.

It works perfectly for me, I just tried. I got my HDV widescreen footage, I used pan/crop to make it fill the frame, and then I exported. It was properly cropped to 4:3, no squishing or stretching.

Make sure that your Vegas project properties have the right template selected though. It should be either NTSC or PAL DV (not widescreen).
