Keeping track keyframes when deleting segments

If I have track keyframes, such as track motion at a point where there is a video clip, then I delete the video clip, the track motion keyframes get deleted as well. If I move the keyframes out from under the clip, then delete the clip, the keyframes remain.

I have a 'skeleton' project with alot of track motion that I use repeatedly, just replacing the clips with different media. It is a real pain to have to go in and move all the track motion keyframes out from under the clip, delete the clip, insert a new clip, then try to remember where all the keyframes were originally positioned.

I may be missing something obvious, but is there a way to delete a clip WITHOUT deleting the track motion keyframes that are under it?

then I delete the video clip, the track motion keyframes get deleted as well - . .. er .. no .. not with me .. . Leave Auto Ripple off . .

Other way is : Media Pool > Right click event> Drop Down Menu > select Replace . . done!

"is there a way to delete a clip WITHOUT deleting the track motion keyframes that are under it"

yes- when you unselect the "lock envelopes to events toolbar", then delete events, track keyframes are untouched.

. .apologies .. yes I did miss something, disable "Lock Envelopes to Events" .. quite right . .. but I do have a point about replacing? Got that one correct.

Nothing more frustrating than spending hours doing a piece of work and then have somebody explain how much easier it could have been.... :-) After a year of use, I'm still discovering all the bells and whistles in Vegas. Thanks so much, Grazie, for pointing out the media/replace function. Never knew it was there.

Also, thanks to Sony for pointing me to the lock envelope button. I knew that was there. But it never occurred to me to consider keyframes to be "envelopes".

Oh, well, I'm learning.

Thanks again.

. .yer know then . .I'm still making mistakes . .I forget stuff .. I experiment with Vegas . . I do things I really shouldn't with Vegas . . .I mess with all sorts of stuff .. Open projects and copy and paste events and Paste Atributes . . hell! There just aint enough time left to figure out wotz there! ! !

. . . Today I presented a 6 min Somali evening to some hard-ball officers of a London Borough - they were applauding BEFORE the end credit came up . . phew!

. .. Did vegas have anything to do with it? Yer BEtcha! . . .

. .I'm still learning . . and still making mistakes . .y'know what? I don't care .. so long as I'm getting close to what I want .. .

Keyframes as envelopes? YEah .. beats me too! . .BUT when you get to understand this Shy Mistress more .. she does .. eventually show her virtues .. sometimes you have to understand the logic of the terminlologies . . "Key frames as Envelopes" is one of them .. there are others ..

Best regards,

Grazie
