Key frame frustration

Okay, I'm calm again now, so I can talk about this rationally. I just can't seem to get pan/crop key frames to behave, even after watching several tutorials, reading about them, etc. This is not the first time, either; I have managed them occasionally for more than simple moves, but never consistently.

At present, I have a title sequence, in which the first part of a word should drop from outside the top of the frame, bounce briefly, then go right, where it bumps into the second half, which is entering from the right. Then first half then recoils to the left, soon followed by the second half, and they join screen center.

I can get the separate moves, but don't understand how to preview the timed coordination with the pan-crop dialogue. The timeline count is not the same as the pan/crop, which only starts from the selected event's beginning, so I can't compare times. I move the cursor in the pan-crop, but that doesn't play in the preview window, so then I play the sequence for the 100th time, only to make another key frame adjustment. Or, I try to position the second clip on the timeline to better time with the first, but that's imprecise and doesn't, of course, affect individual key frames.

I know this isn't rocket science. What am I missing, please? Thank you. (This is in MVS 15 Plat.)

Do you have Sync Cursor enabled? It is that little Key icon on the lower left of the Pan/Crop window? (I assume that is an option in VMS, but it may just be Pro).

Yes it's available in VMS, David. For clarification this is what it looks like:

Gentlemen, thank you. That is the missing detail. Vive la difference!
